Department of War Accountants Office Wm Simmons William Irvine Superintendent of Military Stores Philadelphia Department of War Accountants Office October 14th 1801 Sir On inquiry at the Treasury Department it appears by a letter from the Secretary dated the 25th June 1799 that the Superintendent of Military Stores was directed to deliver to a M L[illegible 5 letters] one disc for the use of Joseph Clarke & Co. contractors for fabricating musketts. Two hundred musket stocks out of the public stores in Philadelphia. As the late Superintendent omitted to include that number in a list of the names of the Contractors who have received musket stocks which he was directed to furnish, I have to request that you inform me whether the aforesaid number were delivered as directed, or what proportion thereof- that I may be enabled to charge the parties.
