Cupps was near the Oconee 22 April, heard gunshots; says he saw about 30 Indians massacring Richard Thresher, two children, negro wench. Wife with infant ran into river. Woman sustained scalping, multiple gunshot and tomahawk wounds, died 24 hours later. Infant found drowned. Nancy Smith said number of Indians 100.
