Remarks from Captain Brant in the name of the Deputies, addressed to Governor Colonel Simcoe
Document 1793N.B. at the Council held at Niagara, before the arrival of the Federal Commissioners, Captain Brant spoke with Upper Canada Governor Colonel Simcoe. Brant gives greetings and expresses peaceful intentions and presents Wampum. Simcoe remarked that he was happy to see them well, and as the commissioners wished to meet the Indians in Simcoe's presence, he should be glad to hear what they have to say. [An asterisk says the commissioners expressed no such thing; they merely consented to the measure because it was the wish of the Indians. See 5 July proceedings.] The copy of the address and answer from the Governor came from his Secretary Major Littlehales.
