Cap^t George Tillinghast June 30^th 1800— Providence R. I. Sir The accountant being absent it is my duty to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated the 21 Inst^t. The hurry of business preparatory to removing the Office from Philad^a to this place may have occasioned the delay in answering your letter dated 27 April.— In reply to your enquiry relative to M^r Boss's accounts, I have to inform you that they are finally [undecipherable] and the balance paid him a considerable time since.— In which accounts he has been paid for the Rations overdrawn by you, [undecipherable] to be deducted from your pay by the Paymaster. Your rations included in a general Return signed by Major Darling, and as it is lengthy & contains all the issues made to the Troops under his command I have thought it unnecessary to send you copies of them — as the letter of the accountant directed to you at Oxford fully explains the particulars of the deductions; a copy of which I inclose you.
