Dear Sir.
Whereas I had given unto Capt Alexander Patterson, a power of receiving from you the back pay which was due to me as a Captain of the 6th Pennsylvania Regiment, and am desirous to know to what sum my back pay amounted to &which he received from you, you would greatly oblige me by giving to the Bearer David Bells a few Lines with the amount; I would have wrote to you Sooner on the Subject, but it is seldom an opportunity offers from this Quarter. — in the full confidence that you will grant me that favour, I have the Honour of Subscribing my Self.
Dear Sir
