It is a notorious fact that a number of Men who were made Prisoners at the Surrender of Charleston were sent by the Enemy from there to Jamaica, and from this Man's Narative it appears he was one of the number he appears to be Candide in his history and as that part of it relative to his Services in the North Carolina line agrees with the records in my possession I have considered him as one that was a Prisoner during the War and stated his Claim accordingly, but which is nevertheless submitted — (signd) Jo.^s Howell The Auditor of the Treasury [seal]
