        P dy your letter of the 6th July I find

the Pay Master General has charged your with 18000 Dollars delivered Mr. Slade by your order in December 1779 as Pay due the First Regiment North Carolina Continental Troops, I then acted as Pay Master to the said Regiment in the absence of Capt. Read. and as acknowledge to have Received at Philadelphia of Mr. Slade in December 1779 the said sum of 18000 Continental Dollars, which he received from the Pay Master General by your order for the use of the Officers and Soldiers of the said first Regiment
