Sir Your Letter of the 18^th Instant is recieved, wherein you express a surprize that you did not recieve your whole pay from me in this City, and make a demand [undecipherable] is left on me. [undecipherable] was discharged — You almost suppose that this neglect must have arisen from a desire to deprive you of so much of your due; tho' I can scarcely think you woud entertain such a sentiment. I find that M^r Jackson has left in the hands of Capt. [undecipherable: Framer?] the Agent of your hire the certificate of the pay due to you to the time of your being deranged — in this settlement he omitted to charge you with forty Dollars recieved from [undecipherable: Gen. Greene?], by which means you are overpaid that sum. your account current I have enclosd you to explain the [undecipherable] [undecipherable] after [undecipherable] I should be happy to comply with your request were it proper, but the commutation is in liew of all the half pay that was due to you as well as what should become due, and therefore debars you from any other compensation.
