Gentlemen
When Maj McCree of the No Carolina Line [undecipherable] application to the last May to the Pay Master Genl Office for the 2 Months pay in 82 and 4 po in 83 together with their two years Subsistance Money, he was informed that You were in daily expectations of receiving some Returns, Accounts and other papers from Mr Dart of the Southern Department, and that as soon as the said papers should come to Your Office, You would be Ready to settle with for the said parts of pay with an Agent for any Number of Officers of the said line —
As the Southern Mail goes of to day and being desirous to give to those Officers every Satisfaction in my power on that head; You would oblige a Number of the Officers, by informing me whether upon their proxy to me, You would Settle for the said Months pay, and whether it is necessary that they should draw up an expeditiously their Accounts against the United States for the same — I wish also You would be so kind as to inform me, whether You have received Mr Dart's Returns as also
If You are so kind as to give me all those necessary informations, and to inform direct in what Manner those Officers must proceed to procure themselves their Satisfaction, I would write [undecipherable] immediately, and would expect to have their papers here in less than one Month —
Your Compliance would greatly oblige a Number of the Officers, as also
