Sir, I had hoped before this time to have had the pleasure of seeing you in this town, but from the nature of your business I can very readily account for your departure from West point being longer delayed than you at first expected. I received from Cap^t Blair the certificates for commutation amounting to 2360 Dollars and 305 Dollars in part for pay for the 3 months in 1781 & for 1783. I suppose it had escaped your memory that I had lodged my [strikethrough: ace] Seperate acc.^t & that it had been approved by you, before the Separation of the Army — Lest you should have mislaid it I have enclosed a Duplicate which I believe to be an exact copy of the original. — Capt. Ballard, who bears this, will take charge of the certificates which are yet due me.
