Enclosing Receipts Frigate United Sates Oct 7, 1798 Sir Enclosed is a receipt of Mr Edward J Peyton Purser of the Delaware, for fifty dollars on account of the pay of seamen etc. –also a receipt of lieutenant Stewards, for Two hundred and four Dollars for while he has vouchers to meet being the balance of many advances for the recruiting service by order of the Secretary of War–which sums be pleased to pay to my credit on the books of Navy Office. – I forwarded to Mr. Simmons Esquire Accountant Sept War–vouchers for the expenditure of public money who informs me he has forwarded them to you–should they appear correct be pleased also to pay the amount to my credit.
