Sir
I received your letter of the 23d August respecting Isidore Peltien. — He arrived at this Post in August 1797 and presented [undecipherable] an agreement made with him by the Quarter Master General or his Assistant. — wherein it appears he was a Citizen and was engaged as a Mason at two Dollars pr day. — which Services he performed under my directions on the public works until he was discharged on the 2d of September 1798 as you will see by the enclosed Certificates. —
from Sir.
Your Obedient Servt
Burbeck
[This and Note admitted [undecipherable] [undecipherable] to be noted on me[undecipherable]]
[Mr Wm Simmons.]
The time when the Services commenced not mentioned — it therefore cannot be examined nor be any check on other accts which may be rendered by the same man nor can it be ascertained whether Sundays are included — quere did he draws Rations at the same time — price is enormous to a man who [underline: cannot write] and for Sundays & probably Rations at same time.
