Heard requested & has with him the Receipts for 10 Horses — Lieut now Cap^t. Heard informs he paid for 10 Horses average at 120 dollars = 1200 10 Men bounty of 20 dols — — 200 Keeping the Horses, Subsist. of the Men & premium for inlisting 65. [undecipherable] — — it appears by Cap^t. Hopkins [undecipherable] that he has charged for all the Horses & Bounty for Men [and] [undecipherable] — it [undecipherable] presum'd that Cap^t. Hopkins is accountable for the Money charged to Cap^t. Heard by [undecipherable] Col [undecipherable] — Cap^t. Heard asserts he has settled his accounts with Cap^t. Hopkins at Baltimore. Novem. 18. 1791 [signature] Remarks on Major David Hopkins a/c Settled with the US for pay as Major in the 1^st Reg^t L. Dragoons — Credits 120 dollars rec^d in 1782 of the US — this is a mistake — the sum should be 100 dols rec^d of L^t Pete [undecipherable] to the L^t Reg^t — therefore 20 dols too much — also he Credits 240 dols Rec^d of the US in 1783 — there is also a mistake as I do not find any charge against him for that Sum — it should have been Credited the State of Penns^a as he Rec^d 275 dols from that State being 5 Mos pay so that 15 dols still [undecipherable] to his Debit — to be oppos^d either to his Subsistence or to his [strikethrough: undecipherable] [undecipherable] now produc^d for Settlement — if nec^y to write to Major Hopkins — send the letter to Baltimore — Commission dated [signature] 26 Dec. 1782 as Major in the 1 Reg^t [of] D. rank the 1 Jany 1781 — [undecipherable] to the end — Notes Major Hopkins a/c rec^d. [undecipherable] Major Hopkins informs that the receipts for Ten Horses are [undecipherable] up — to apply to Cap^t. John Heard then [undecipherable] for [their?] Receipt on he purchased the Horses [undecipherable] [strikethrough: undecipherable] Major Hopkins, [undecipherable] settled with the State [of] Mary[land] for [undecipherable] sums, Indebted by him for [undecipherable] [undecipherable] to with public Monies in his hands.
