Sir:
On settlement of the account Lieu. Meriwether Lewis
1 Regt. Infantry it appears that he has drawn from the con- tractor 950 Rations as Commanding Officer at Charlottesville, Virga. from 1 Jan. 1798 to 30 April 1799 amounting to One hundred forty nine dollars & 96/100, to which he is not entitled. You will accordingly deduct the same from his pay a.c. as it becomes due.
