Document 1801Lieutenant Pike is appointed pay master of the 2nd Regiment, and goes forward with the rolls of the Corps this quarter. Lieutenant Wilson is apparently in arrears, and has been ordered to complete the depending paperwork, and return to the seat of government. Argues that the Paymaster of the Corps should be given enough money to cover unexpected contingencies. They could recruit more men if they had money on hand.

It seems a matter also of indispensable, That the pay master of the Corps should be furnished monies for contingencies, and the recruiting service, so that the right amount of the ? will ? meet the actual demands presented, and the necessities of the individuals, frequently coupled a diversion of the pay from its specific object, which involves perplexities and species of injustice, and therefore should be avoided.
