Sir I am weary of Apologizing for delays, and expect you are of hearing them: I have nothing new to offer, I am not yet furnished with the Accounts of Expenditures: A few Days ago they were handed me, on examination I found many mistakes, and had to return them for correction; Whenever they are completed, I shall lose no time, but with all possible expedition shall finish and forward my [undecipherable] due the 1^st. January — Herewith you will receive the one for the quarter ending 30^th. September; it only embraces a part of the Articles in possession of Mr. Re[undecipherable] I have, Sir, enclosed a partial Return of the Articles that were on hand the 1. January, in order to give you some knowledge of the State of the Post here; since it hath not been in my power to render a perfect statement. I am now receiving the Stores from Shepherds Town, what hath come to hand, appears to be exceedingly damaged, especially the fixed Ammunition, many of the Boxes (or rather the contents) are a perfect mixture, business will not allow me to examine the whole of them particularly; when the receiving is at an end, I shall as soon as possible make report thereof — I had not knowledge of the following Articles, when I made my former Returns, Viz seven Crowbars, twenty five Picks, & four pair Handcuffs — also 130 Eagles, these were found in a keg with some refuse paint, that was delivered at the disbandment of the Troops: there may be some contrariety in this & the former Returns, and perhaps the next with respect to Picks, Shovels, Spades & Crowbars, a number was brought by Mr. Shepherd when he had the superintendence of [undecipherable] on the Canal, I have requested to know the Amount but cannot [undecipherable] the Account on hand the first of [undecipherable] will be Accurate of all.
