Sir Your letter of the 30 November last has been received covering your accounts for supplies to the Garrison of Fort Johnston to the 6^t Reg^t at Averyborough, & to detachments of the 4^t Reg^t at Salisbury upon which you claim a balance of D^rs 681.75, — Upon examination I find you have made a demand of 9.28. for bread furnished the Hospital at Fort Johnson in March & April last which charge was admitted to your credit in the Settlement of the 6^t September. It is Therefore it together with the Commission thereon amounting to 22 Cents — deducted — Agreeable to your request your Draft for 839.70 in favor of W. Anderson Esq^r has been accepted & paid — This of course will bring you indebted to the U.S. in the sum of D^rs 161.43 — with which you will be held accountable — As it cannot admit of a doubt that where vinegar makes no part of the Rations issued a reduction will take place in the price accordingly — and as you have the estimated price of this article in your agreement, you will in future make the proper deduction on the face of the vouchers — You will also make the deductions in your next accounts for the vinegar not issued in those now admitted — Sam^le W.S.
