Samuel Hodgdon Esquire Philadelphia February 23 June 1801 Dear Sir, The post of this day has arrived without your accustomed favor — I hope I am not to attribute this failure to negligence on my part on the g. notice, nor to indisposition on your part. Since last post I have been engaged packing up clothing for the garrison of Fort Pickering & Fort Adams, by order of the General — This has given me a great deal of trouble indeed — In in order to conform to the General's instructions, it becomes necessary to open most of the Packages and repack them in order to compact as near as may be, the nearest quantities required — And still very great irregularities must take place, as clothing for the Companies of the 3 Reg^t is taken from that appropriated to the 1^st and 2^d reg^t Inf^y. Pray is there any further supply of clothing on the way for this post? The General says he would not accept of the Office of Minister of War, was it offered to him — Pray who is to fill that Office? The 2^d Major is not yet returned from Milledgeville — Jam^ts H
