Sir In your letter of the 13^th instant which I have received, you express Some Surprize at the information you had received from a M^r Henshaw. If M^r Henshaw had told you all I mentioned to him upon the Subject I have my doubts if your Surprize would have been immediately directed to me. The fact is I declined any further Agency for the Quarter Masters department as long Since as the 19^th of May last when I wrote to M^r James Miller Agent of that Department of my resolution and the reasons of its. Major General Hamilton wrote me from Oxford in June last requesting my care of Sundry Stores at Boston &Con—d belonging to the [undecipherable] reg^t. As there was no one here appointed to take that care I consented to it, but observed to the General, who was Soon after here, that I had given up the Agency — Col^o Ogden who was here with General Hamilton brought me his directions to have the publics Stores [sent] to Springfield — I never heard your name mentioned in the business nor any instructions given by you or any one else — Now — However Sir after taking up the business I urged the Pay Master & Qu^r Master of the 15 — reg^t who had the Care of Some articles in both lines belonging to that reg^t at Concord to have them packed & invoiced and a return of the Same made me, when I would provide for their transportation to Springfield — Col^o Ogden desired me to inform him when any thing was done in the business and to pass to him any account of charges. Upon M^r Henshaw's application to me in August last I wrote to Col^o Ogden a copy of which letter is enclosed, that you may be made acquainted that my exertions were not wanting in the business I undertook — It was only in November that I was informed all the Stores were ready for transportation to Springfield. As Soon as I received the receipts from thence of their delivery there, I wrote again to Col^o Ogden under date of the [undecipherable] December — and desired his directions to whom the receipts & acct of transportation Should be Sent and the mode it Should be exhibited in — Having had no reply to my letter of the 20 of August I then passed him a copy of it — but hitherto I have received no answer to either — You will now receive with this Col^o Joseph Williams' receipts of the 25^th of November & 9^th of December last of all the Public Stores Clothing &c delivered over to my charge belonging to the 15 — regiment of U.S. Infantry.
