I got most of it by this Mail — No post having arrived from the Eastward this week — the Trappahannock being frozen over — With respect to the Cannon, Col: Yelin claims 12 pounders, and eight ninepounders that arrived, viz. five 12lbs. and four 9lbs. I have by order of the General, sent forward by land — on the 10^th Inst to the Rappahannock, to which place all the others are to be Sent, either by land or water, as far as to Bring a Carriage for the whole of them are to be made here and forwarded as soon as furnished — Waggoners are now employed at that business — I shall not neglect to keep Cap^t. Jackson's mind of your draft, I however at present am not apprized of his being able to pay it — The D^r. M^r General descended the Ohio immediately after G^l. Strong — I am persuaded he could not fix his residence in the City of Washington, if it can possibly be avoided — Nor do I think, that the General will accept of M^r. Dexter's place — The General having with pleasure well his residence here, and being at the head of the Army — in which I presume there is a greater probability of continuance than at the head of the War department. — Cap^t.
