Providence the 16^th Jan^y. 1801. Zephaniah Brown formerly of this State, but is now and has been for several years past a resident in the State of Connecticutt, is desirous of Entering into the Service of his Country — his object is to obtain a Chaplancy in the permanant Army — this Gentleman was a Captain in the Reg^t. from this State, (in the Revolutionary War,) late under my Command & Served with Reputation — his Political Principles are Federal — and as far as I have been able to learn he continues to Support a fair Character — I therefore feel a confidence in Recommending him through you, to the President, as a Gentleman well calculated to Execute the the important Duties of that office, with Honor to himself and Service to his Country: in July 1799. I Wrote a letter to the Secretary of War on the present Subject — which being destroyed by the by fire — Cap^t.
