[116] Philad^a January 9^th 1801 D^r Sir, I inclose a copy of a letter from the Secretary at War to Col Hodgdon dated the 6^th October last and an account of the expenses incurred in consequence of it amounting to $33⁷⁷/100, shall I request you to get the acc^t passed and pay the amount to M^r Ed^w Jones on my behalf. I have [strikethrough: the] fact paid the money to M^r Drinker some time ago. The receipt is left blank which you can fill up as you please — There were about four hundred pair of Shoes delivered by Jonas Wade more than his contract mentioned. the Inspector says they are very good — they are of the large size & the price ^is fair at 97 Cts, as low if not lower than they can again be procured at — As they are already Inspected & will shortly be wanted, You will oblige me by Stating the circumstances to whoever has a Right to decide whether they shall be Received or not, & letting me know the Result.
