[S.S.] The Secretary of War has issued a warrant in favor of the Treasurer to be remitted to you for four thousand two hundred sixteen dollars & ¼ or in which sum you are to charge & hold ammunition — Sam^l Hodgdon Esq^r Accountants Office Philad^a January 2^d 1801 Sir I have received your letter dated 19 Ult^o with the accounts therein mentioned. You have stated upon & the amount will be settled in the usual way. The remarks of disbursements you mention, will say over until those for the last quarter are received — Sam^l H? D^r The Hon^bl January 1^st 1801 — David in Georgia — Sir The claims for [undecipherable] sucess of M^rs Ray & John Villenas on the expedition in 1797 commanded by Gen^l [undecipherable] I have the honor to submit herewith and to inform you that from the remarks on the muster Rolls it appears that no demands were received by either of those persons. The certificates therefore cannot authenticate the claim. The muster Rolls in such cases have the authority on which claims are founded.
