Tammany & Point Peter I mentioned that he should render it as a private Citizen. In the accounts presented enclosed in your letter of the 15^th inst. Cap^t. Nicoll charges the pay & forage of a regular Surgeon's Mate. On this it will be impossible for me to decide untill I am informed whether the number of men at those posts during the time Captain Nicoll officiated, was sufficient to justify the expense of the attendance of a regular Surgeons Mate: if you can procure authentic returns of the numbers as above mentioned, I will with those additional documents, take the subject into Consideration.
