[Answer to the 8th [undecipherable]]
Fort Johnstone No C—
Decr 12. 1800—
Enclosed with this are returns of Ordnance, military stores, Inspection & the Surgeon's return. A return of Wants is preparing — it will be a long one — a new post & every thing wanted —
The buff belts you were so good as to promise to send round, have not yet arrived; I hope they have not mist their way — nor that the memorandum misplaced —
I am informed a Quantity of Clothing intended for the 3d Regt. Infantry is by some fatality got to Wilmington — from whence no opportunity may soon offer of [undecipherable] them to their original destination: Has you not better have the shirts, shoes, socks, Blankets, patent aloons, stocks & clasps, knapsacks, nott de transferd to the troops here — and have the coats reshipp'd for Philada. when you can do with them as you please. If you approve of this arrangement — yr. order I presume) is all that is necessary: But if not — Suffer me to advise you to direct them to be reshipp'd to Philada. as soon as possible — or the moth, mice, rats, millews &c will ruin them.
Pray don't forget the buff belts — the old black ones are disfigured & worn out —
