Sam^t Hodgdon Esq^r December 10^th 1800 Philad. Sir James O'Hara Esq^r has exhibited a charge against the United States for 20 Barrels of Pork delivered to Brian McDonalds at [undecipherable: Mustermaster] in the 23 May 1797 as proved by his receipt. He states that McDonalds was as assistant Commissary at that time & that he became his Agent on the 1 June 1797 after the Contract of 1796 [undecipherable] of course the Commissary Department had ceased. I therefore request that you will have referred to the accounts of McDonalds with the Commissary General & ascertain the fact as well as the application of the Pork by McDonalds for my information, which I wish to receive as early as possible.
