Sir, James O'Hara Esq^r has exhibited a charge against the United States for 20 Barrils of Pork delivered to John M^cDonald at Michilimackanac on the 24 May 1797, as appears by his receipt. He states that M^cDonald acted as assistant Commissary at that time, and that he became his ag[undecipherable: probable reading "agent"] on the 1 June 1797. after the Contract of 1796 ([undecipherable] the Commissary Department) had expired. I therefore request that you will have referenced to the accounts of M^cDonald with the Commissary General and ascertain the fact. as well as the application of the Pork by M^cDonald, for my information which I wish to receive as early as possible.
