[Docket, written vertically:] Nov 27^th 1800 letter from [undecipherable] [Left side marginalia largely undecipherable; figure visible: 460] Philad.^ce Nov. 27^th 1800 Sir, Not having received any satisfactory information, to my letter of the 5^th March 1800; the following, is an extract from it, to which I claim your immediate attention: "Immediately on the receipt of this, I will thank you to send forward to me a minute Statement, of the property belonging to the Factory under your charge, as may appear on minute investigation, also, your Ideas respecting the debts, due the Factory, which were contracted by your predecessor. & particularly, the transactions with Mr Seagrove; the Manner in which his debt was contracted, & whether the sum said to be owing by Seagrove, is real, or otherwise. State also, the situation of the debts, whether there is a probability of there being recovered in whole or in parts, if in part, only, what part. — Please to informe also whether any of the Horses, Cattle, or Hogs, have been received — how many of each, their value, & the probability, or improbability of recovering more, also, be pleased to forward Mr Prices private account with the the Factory; & ascertain whether any thing which he has taken to his own use has not been carried to the debit of his account by him, or his assistants; & whether, the Negro woman, is considered as public or private property. Also, your prospects relative to the Indian trade, in its present establishment, in the State of Georgia. & finally, every kind of information, relative to the business, & which may be a clue to me, in making a fair & just, statement of the Indian trade. The preceeding requisitions are in consequence of an investigation of the trade, & the manner in which the business has been conducted, by Congress; & in consequence of the Secretary of War's directions to me, I will therefore thank you, to render the information as speedily as possible." — In addition to the above, I have to request, Sir, that you will forward me an exact inventory of all the Merchandize & store at the Factory, an accurate list of the debts due to, & from the Factory, with your remarks on those that are desperate; as well as an estimate value of the improvements and Buildings at Fort Wilkinson, & every article & animale, belonging to the Factory. All of which Statements & Inventories, must be rendered up to the 1^st January 1801. I cannot conclude, Sir, without, urging the necessity of your immediate attention to these requisitions, as it will be impossible to render satisfactory Statements of the situation of the Factory, to Congress, during the present session, (and which is absolutely necessary) without your direct & punctual attendance to these requests — I am Sir, Your most Obed.
