Sir, By order of the Secretary of War expressed in a letter dated the 6^th instant, to me, the passages and expenses stated in the enclosed account for the two Indian lads have been procured and paid for.— The Boys have been supported and educated at the sole expense of the Society of Friends. Being now desirous to return to their own country, the Committee of Friends applied to me to direct their safe conveyance to their respective homes at the public expense — their letter was referred to the Secretary of War, and produced the order above mentioned for forwarding them under the most comfortable circumstances at the expense of the United States.— As it will be charged to the Incidental appropriation made for the War Department, I think it proper to request you to pay the amount, and charge it accordingly.— I am, Sir, Israel Whelen, Esq^r. your most obedient Servant, Purveyor.— Samuel Hodgdon
