[Copy] Hartford Sep^r 18 1800 Col Joseph Williams Sir M^r John Cooley informs me that M^r Ames disapproves of the Coal that Cap^t Josiah Deming last brought from Virginia, & he wishes my opinion. I take the liberty to inform you that it is my opinion that they are as good as the Swan Coal or as is Commonly brought from there — I have Shoved the Coal — & for what reason I know not, are not so good in general this year as they were the last — I have for some time past been in the Coal trade & must say it is my opinion that they are as good as they was this year & that they will answer every purpose & this from your humble Servant, Signed — Richard Dowzick A true Copy from the original attest J.
