Philadelphia 17th September 1800
The Abstract wanted is for Quarter Masters stores purchased & received in the months of July, August and September 1798 — this was not in the packet which I acknowledged the receipt of nor has it ever come to hand —
It appears on examining the Clothing accounts you take Credit for sundry deliveries on the orders of Samuel Vance — The Clothing forwarded for the 1, 2d & third Regiments to your address in the last quarter of 1798 subject to the order of Captain Vance was not charged to you, but to the Regiments on which it was forwarded — Vance is accountable for its delivery and you have only to produce his receipts to exhonorate you — No Clothing is charged to you but such as is marked M.S. Isaac Craig and intended as a deposit — You must be careful not to blend these distinct things in your accounts — I have been expecting the Secretary of War here for several days
[Past]
It is said he is going farther eastward to meet his Lady — When he does I will mention you did appear to him — Wilkins returned to Washington on Sunday last — Nothing particularly new —
Your most Obedient Servant
