September 18^th 1800 Sir Your accounts rendered to this office for supplies of to the 30 June 1800, upon which you claim the balance of D^s 274 have all been examined, found whole I am under the necessity of suspending and not able to pass to your credit on the present settlement without further vouchers & explanations during charges, amounting to the sum of D^s 2014 there being a balance due from you of D^s 249 [undecipherable]. The principal part of the amount suspended are for payments made by you upon the order of [undecipherable] Col. Smith, said to be on account of mechanical labor & for balances for materials furnished work done by hand without procuring any bills or accounts other than their rect^s. which bills & accounts must be provided before I can pass the same to your credit; if you are not in possession of the Bills & accounts it will be well to apply to Col.
