It is as I stated before that payment was made to the amount of the appropriations & that no further Sum could be paid by me, — The salary of Ripley I do not find included in either of the accounts, but it will be in a similar situation with the Sum deducted from the account to the 31^st Dec^r 1796, — as there are no appropriations in addition to what you have received Sam &c W.S. Roxbury Gentlemen^d Not knowing to what cause to attribute your withholding your accounts till this late period, & not having any reply to my last letter of the 6^th May, last, I must repeat to you the necessity of forwarding them without delay in as near conformity to my former requisitions as the nature of your supplies will admit of. Lest my letter of the 6^th May may not have come to hand, for your better government I give you the following copy, "I rec^d yours of the 26^th Ult^o this day, in reply have only to observe that if you cannot fully conform to the instructions & forms, required in my letter to you of the 18 March last, to which I again refer you: I shall at least expect you to do it so far as is practical & Send them to this Office for reconsideration. "As the manner in which, most of the ration Returns are drawn out defeats all check or investigation I shall exp[ect] you to be very particular in having the numbers and description of men & time drawn for fully expressed there[in] Sam &c W.S.
