I have very strong. & I believe well founded Suspicions, that a Gentleman who stands high in Rank has taken measures to impress on the mind of the Secretary of War, that the Charges against A—, are personal & vexatious— & every influence will be made to prevent you coming on, to prosecute this business— a fair & candid investigation cannot take place without you are present— [strikethrough: undecipherable] urge the Secretary, of the necessity of the Measure— the Honour & reputation of the Establishment absolutely require it.
