[Copy] Boston, August 21, 1800. Sir,— Mr. Henshaw, late Contractor for the U. S. army in this quarter, called on me to day respecting the military Stores belonging to the late 15^th Reg^t. &c. &c. In to which Major General Hamilton requested me to take charge of. Mr. Henshaw observing, that if they were now ready, he had teams which could transport them to Springfield.— I have to observe to you, as I did to him, that if the Officers who have the charge of those articles, had delivered them over to me as I requested, I would before this time have sent them by his teams, or some others, to Springfield.— The day after I had last the [strikethrough: the] pleasure of seeing you here, I wrote to M^r. Jones at Concord, late Major of the 15^th Reg^t. requesting him to see the Stores there packed, & invoiced, and put on by the Contractors teams to Springfield, if any such conveyance offered; and if not, I had desired him before to send them on here. Though Major Jones promised his attention to the Business, I have received no reply to my L^r. of the 24^th of June last, address to him upon the subject. I also requested a like attention, from the Pay Master & Quarter Master of the 15^th Reg^t. respecting all the public Stores remaining, belonging to that Reg^t. and I understood them, it was their intention to collect them, and deliver them over. I observed to them that I could not receive them unless asked fit for transportation and invoiced, th^t I might require the necessary receipts from the Storekeeper at Springfield. Having had no information from either of the Officers above mentioned, the thing remains in Statu quo. I wish it to be understood, that I cannot consent to have any agency in this Business, unless those who have now the charge of the articles, will see them packed and inventoried, before they are delivered to my charge.— I am, respectfully, Sir, your obedient Servant, Copy Signed J.
