War Department, April 23. 1800. Gentlemen, I have received your letter dated the 19^th Instant. When your account was under examination the allowance for Storage and Five per Cent on the monies paid under your Agency was considered to comprize a compensation for your trouble. The Agents for the Navy and the War Department have no distinct allowance made them for receiving and delivering Articles. This is always supposed to be met by the Commission. I shall speak with the Treasurer of the United States who is at present absent but expected in a few days in Town, and if it is practicable to have the money (he having remitted it to the Collector at New London) paid you by the Collector at New Haven it shall be done.
