That I might consider it: the only alteration which can be made in it, is to allow the Wood for the cadet, as it appears by the General orders of the Adjutant General dated the 27 January & just received from the Secretary of War that, it is directed that the Cadets in the Fortifications upon the Sea Board, and at West Point receive in future the same allowance of fuels as is granted to Lieutenants — therefore the 7 f^et charged to you as overdrawn for him for February will be allowed at 7 Doll^s p Cord is ......... D^rs 6.12½ together with the Commissions thereon at 2½ p C^t......... . 36½ Doll^s 6.49. for which sum I have directed the Pay master General to give you a credit on the Books of his Office — The barge to which you refer in your letter of the 15 May is not understood; I would therefore wish you to explain the nature of the claim, if it has not already been Settled to your satisfaction, you will please forward the Acct with the necessary certificates — I am &c W.S. Jonⁿ Jackson Esq^r Boston Sir Accountant's Office July 21^s 1800 Your accounts of expenditures for the Fortifications at Boston have passed examination & the amount thereof passed to your credit, leaving a balance due the United States of [undecipherable] thousand eight hundred twenty eight dollars & [undecipherable]/100. This Settlement includes the sum of 10000 D^rs. transmitted to you on the 18 Ins^t & otherwise differs from your statement $263.57. which having arisen on former Settlements (of which you were informed) needs no further explanation. The Secretary of War has, or no doubt will, advise you of his decision, as to the construction given by me to your Instructions as agent for this Department. You will be pleased so to accommodate your accounts thereto, as that on the next Settlement no difference may arise — I am &c W.S.
