B.P.O. 401810.] Samuel Hodgdon Esq^r Philadelphia Springfield July 19^th 1800 Sir, I have received your Letter of the [text at edge obscured] enclosing six hundred Dollars in Post Notes on account of the Armory P^r Mail direct from the Southard. agreeable to your letter of notice — which came to hand at the same time. Your favor of the 2^d inst. enclosing One thousand Dollars on account of the Armory was duly received on the 7. at which time I advised you of it by letter If it does not get to hand, I will thank you to give me notice — as in that Letter I requested your direction, relative to Damaged Muskets rec^d from Oxford — Enclosed are the returns of the Armory & the receipts & deliveries in the Military department with the several vouchers to support the same. In forwarding to Arch^t Crary Esq^r at Rhode Island the five eight inch Howitzers at the request of Col^e Stevens of New York — under assurances from him of procuring a legal order as soon as the irregular state of the Offices were again Established — will come under one of those extraordinary occations referred to in your letter to me dated 30 Oct 1798 where a Latitude may be given governed by prudence — I hope you will have the goodness to pass them to my credit as also the other deliveries & Sam.
