Hare                                       Accountant's Office Salisbury, N.C.                                          July 18, 1800 — Sir It is the appropriate duty of my office to call on all receivers of public money from this Department, from time to time to submit their accounts to this office, for settlement, and I have it specially in charge from the Comptroller of the Treasury & Secretary for this Department to urge all persons accountable for monies on the books of this office to a punctual exhibition of their accounts; I should conceive an unavailing delays takes place notwithstanding the forms to represent the facts for their information & instruction. Your contracts with the public, provide for the periodical exhibition of your accounts to this office, duly noticed for adjustment; but from your delinquency in this particular, (not having rendered any for a length of time) I furnished the statements in relation to your accounts already noticed, which you were required to do by my letter of the 10 [undecipherable] — I now call upon you to exhibit your accounts without further delay, [to] fully settle with their creditors up to such terms, as may reasonably be expected from the provision of your contracts, as well as to furnish the statements required by my last letter, copy of which I annex for your government — I have only to add that should this application [fail] of producing the desired effect, it will further be my duty & I shall be compelled to the disagreeable necessity of representing of delinquency accordingly. — [signature] P.S.
