Hospitals Samuel Hodgdon July 12th 1800 respecting the purchase of sundries, for the use of the sick at Harpers ferry Virga [address written across length of sheet, perpendicular to above] Israel Whelen Esquire Purveyor Philadelphia Intendant of Stores Office Philadelphia 12th July 1800 Sir, The following hospital stores are immediately for the use of the sick, under the care of Doctor Charles Brown, at Harpers Ferry in Virginia, vizt. fifteen gallons of madeira wine, fifteen gallons of port wine, fifteen gallons of Brandy, fifteen gallons of molasses, one hundred wt. of Coffee, fifty wt. of Chocolate, tens of [illegible] tea, one hundred pounds of muscovado sugar, one hundred pounds of rice, twenty five pounds of barley, thirty gallons of vinegar, one pound of nutmegs one pound of cloves, two pounds of cinnamon, ten pounds of sage, twenty pounds of tamarinds, twenty pounds of Raisins, and twenty pounds of prunes– which I will thank you to purchase as soon as con -venient, and have deposited in the public Store in this city.
