Endorsed: July 8.] Samuel Hodgdon Esq^re Intendant of Stores Philadelphia Trenton July 7^th 1800 Sir, One thousand Dollars in Post Notes enclosed in your Letter of the 2^d inst. on account of the Armory, I have received this day per Mail direct from the Southard, agreeably to notice. With attention I have noticed the contents of your Letter of 27^th ultimo received the 5^th inst. via Boston — the mistake of One thousand Dollars therein noticed I find on examining of Documents to be right. This mark of your candour and goodness merits & receives my most gratefull thanks. An Error of such Magnitude (as it respects myself) admits of no apology. The error of charging you & myself with am^t. of [undecipherable: Estimation?] June $5200 — was by a clause in your Letter of the 9^th ult^o. rec^d on the 17^th via Boston — (viz,) "I have received another Warrant on your account" — no sum being mentioned — my estim[ate] being sent on the 11. & without noticing critically to date — on the 21^st I charged you & myself as above — The explanation in your favour of the 1^st inst. has corrected the error agreeably to your statement. The Camp furniture from Oxford has arrived neither Invoice of the articles or [undecipherable] has yet appeared — I am anxiously & hourly expecting them — part of the cloathing that had been exposed to Rains — has been unpacked & dried altho much wet not injured — the whole shall receive proper attention in a few days. The Muskets received from Oxford have been examined under the care of Col Orr; we find two hundred forty one wanting repairs, by [undecipherable: springs?] screws & rammods &c 43 must be new stocked & 32 wanting Bayonets, the whole will require cleaning. It appears to me proper, that these muskets should be put into repair as soon as possible & I have suggested the same to the Superintendant. He says for that purpose your particular order will be required — will you be good enough Sir to direct according to your wishes, respecting them — My Estimate for July will go forward tomorrow.
