I have received your letter of the 10 Ulto, and in reply have to inform you that from the accots of Mr Ames subsequent to the 1 April 1797 I am enabled to state that he paid to Solomon Rockewell & Brothers, one hundred & twenty Dollars, pr ton, for 10 Tons of refined Iron purchased of them in June July & Septo 1798. His accounts prior to that period have passed to the Treasury Dept; it is therefore to the Register of the Treasury you must apply for any information wanted preceding that date —
