[Received from State Dept Nov. 24, [18?] R.O. 401810.]
Springfield Jun 30th 1800.
Sir, Your letter of the 26th inst. enclosing One thousand Dollars in Post Notes on account of the Armory was received this day by the Post direct from Southard — Your letter of notice therein referred to supposed date 24. has not come to hand. I presume this will reach me by the Mail from Boston, in manner of yours of the 18th which was recd last Saturday.
How is it after all your assiduity — the irregularity in some measure continues — Is not the fault in the P. Office at Philadelphia by placing the Letters in wrong bundls — or giving them wrong directions —
It is some consolation however, that the one thing needfull [underline: Cash] comes direct. I hope no difficulty will [strikethrough: happen] from these remittances.
I am respectfully
your Obt Servant
Samuel Hodgdon Esqr Joseph Williams
