[Docket: Sam'l Hodgdon / June 26^th 1800] [Addressed to: Israel Whelen Esquire / Purveyor] [seal] Philadelphia 25^th June 1800 Sir, Mess'rs Jollys having disappointed us in the rolled iron expected from them for some time past, and having by their own statement no expectation of bringing forward the supply for several weeks, and the apprehension that the public works at Springfield for whose use it is intended may suffer by the delay, I have directed the Inspector of Arms M^r Nicholson, to look about and if possible procure an immediate supply. He informs me that from ten to fifteen hundred weight of rolled Iron answering to the dimensions & suitable in every respect may be had of M^r Brown in Second Street. A Vessel is now here, which will sail shortly for Hartford, in which it may be directly and oeconomically transported; from these circumstances I wish you to purchase the above Iron, and deliver it as usual to the Storekeeper who will have orders to deliver it immediately to the Quarter Master for transportation — The iron contracted for may nevertheless be perfected and received, as the whole will be but a partial supply — Loose no time in this business as the Vessel is loading and will shortly depart I am, Sir, Your most obedient Servant Samuel Hodgdon Israel Whelen Esquire Purveyor
