R.P.O.401310.] Springfield June 23^d 1800 Sir, I have received your letter of the 19^th and Direct in the good old way— enclosing two thousand Dollars in Post Notes on account of the Armory— your [undecipherable: probable reading "Billet"] of notice therein refered to has not come to hand— The Hon^ble the Secretary of War has not advised me of the receipt & acceptance of my Estimate of the probable am^t of expenditures for June— amounting to five thousa[nd] [undecipherable] hundred Dollars— I presume however you have received his Warrant to that am^t— & I have charged you & myself accord-ingly— About sixteen Loads of Muskets, [undecipherable], &c^a have arrived from Oxford, without any regular Invoices of articles— the whole is expected in the course of this Week— when it is presumed some Officer will appear to receive proper receipts— at which time your orders to me of the 19^th ultimo relative to their numbers & State shall command proper attention P.S. the Gunlocks have come to hand I am most respectfully Samuel Hodgdon Esq^r Y^r H^ble Servant, Joseph Williams
