I have received into this Office your Account with Vouchers for the contingent expenses of the War Office amounting to Doll.s 1356. 90/100 — also your Account & Vouchers for the extra expenses incurred by the Removal of the Offices of the War Department in the Year 1799, amounting to Dollars 4350 36/100 —
Certain parts of the Records of the Treasury being gone, to which it is necessary to recur, I cannot at present go into a proper examination of these Accounts, but both of them shall be attended to & adjusted as soon after my arrival at the seat of Government, as possible.
