Enclosed Document Advocating Peace with Indians
Document 1800Stoddert directing business at War Dept. after the departure/retirement of the Sec. of War. All Public Offices, except Hodgdon's, are moving to City of Washington. Hodgdon will remain in Philadelphia to wrap up remaining business. Enclosed documents that advocate for peace with Indians, advised it be published in the Philadelphia Gazette.

The late Secretary of War McHenry has left the Office and the business is carrying on under the general superintendance of Mr Stoddert Secretary of the Navy - All the Public Offices except mine are under moving order and are packing up accordingly - Simmons is gone to provide himself a house and see to the accomodation of his Office, which will soon follow, as all the Books and Papers are packed up - I am to remain here at present, and possibly altoge-ther this depends on circumstances - The enclosed Paper which is Official I think may be very properly published in the Pittsburgh Gazettee - It will leave to know the character of the writer and his extreem desire to pre-serve Peace with the Indians - Have it inserted without any mention from whom it is was recieved.
