It will be necessary to enable the proper Officers to close your account with the Department of War to be furnished as soon as convenient with your account current [undecipherable] to my Successor [undecipherable] the amount of the whole of the merchandize [undecipherable] to my Successor [undecipherable] the amount of monies received by you together with [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] all the invoices. Should a Balance remain in your hands you will be pleased to send the exact amount including charges addressed to the Secretary of War in [undecipherable] of the several kinds heretofore furnished by some vessel bound to Alexandria, Baltimore or George Town, and that you will discontinue the Newspapers and Magazines unless otherwise directed by my Successor. Being about to retire from Office I return you my thanks for the trouble you have taken in the transactions heretofore committed to you and beg you to accept of my best wishes for your welfare and happiness.
