Patterson late Cap^t May 28^th 1800 12^th Reg^t of Infantry New York Sir I have received your letter dated the 25^th Inst^t. in reply to which I have to inform you that by a late regulation of Major General Hamilton, all accounts of the nature of that you forwarded to this Office are to be settled by the Paymasters of the Respective Regiments. Your account will therefore follow that course. It will remain to be decided whether you are to be allowed travelling expences to & from the places you have charged. The regulations in my opinion does not extend to allow an officer expences in travelling from his place of Residence to join his Regiment. To this effect I have heretofore decided; and rejected all such claims. Sam &c W.S. P.S. As relates to the rations overdrawn and with which you have been charged — If your representation be correct, you must have a rec^t from the Contractor.
