Sir Purveyors Office May 27^th 1800 The Secretary of War has inclosed to me a copy of your letter to him of the 24^th Ins^t respecting the muskets lately imported by the Secretary of the Treasury and desiring me to have what is necessary done in the business — it seems a matter rather out of my line and of which in general it might not be proper for me to undertake to decide upon, but on this particular Occasion what you propose appears so evidently to be essentially necessary, that so far as it depends on me I have no hesitation in saying it ought to be immediately done.
